M1 Gas Turbine Combustor – Argonne Collaboration

Our research group will start a collaborative research project to simulate the M1 gas turbine combustor with support from ARL and FAA. Simulation team at Argonne will be engaging with our laboratory to simulate LBO and ignition phenomena in the M1 combustor (shown below). We will utilize advanced spray breakup imaging data from Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source to establish precise initial conditions for the simulations. The M1 combustor was designed and built through the FAA NJFCP program with support from the Army Research Laboratory. The small scale combustor was originally designed to study the impact of fuel properties on lean blowoff and ignition dynamics.
